The Prophet (ﷺ)'s Death Erection

Abul-Feda mentions the exclamation of Ali, who washed his body after his death: "O Prophet, thy penis is erect unto the sky!" (in Vit. Mohammed (p. 140)).

This is a well-known mistranslation, it's even on Wikipedia. This mistranslation basically says that, when the Prophet had passed away, he had died with an erect penis since Ali, his son-in-law and cousin, reports that his penis was erect when he was getting washed for burial.

First of all, the author of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is Edward Gibbon, and in that line of text he he quotes "Vit. Mohammed (p. 140)" as his source for this "historical occurrence," which is taken from Joannes Gagnier's Ismael Abu'l-Feda, De vita, et rebus gestis Mohammedis, a Latin translation of Ismael Abul-Feda's Arabic book Al-Mukhtasar Fī Akhbār al-Bashar. The Latin translation of the Arabic text text goes like this:

The Latin text which was translated from Arabic by Joannes Gagnier.

O propheta, certe penis tuus cælum versus erectus est.

O Prophet, thy penis is erect unto the sky!

However, when checking the Arabic text as is quoted next to the Latin translation, we see something else, completely:

في رواية أن عليًا رضي الله عنه نودي وهو يغسله أن ارفع طرفك إلى السماء.‏

In one account, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was called upon while he was washing him to raise his gaze to the sky.

The words "O Prophet," in reference to Ali while addressing the Prophet, don't appear in the original Arabic text and neither do the words "penis" or "erect." it's a completely different scenario; Ali was ordered to raise his own eyes into the sky to not to look at the Prophet's body while washing him, and it has nothing to do with the Prophet himself. Therefore, we can safely conclude two things from this:

  1. Joannes Gagnier is a horny homosexual who thinks about penis erections.
  2. Edward Gibbon is an unscholarly retard who doesn't check the authenticity of his references.

In the end, this is nothing but a disgusting lie using nothing more than an untrustworthy and unreliable source, namely an English translation of a Latin mistranslation of the original Arabic text (which by the way doesn't even seem to appear in Abul-Feda's book, so it probably was taken from another place).
